Agartala, December 2: A 30-year-old woman from Tripura has been allegedly raped by an unidentified man in the shrubs near Nagpur railway station in Maharashtra.

The survivor was traveling from Coimbatore where she joined a company to Tripura in a train with her friend. However, yesterday, when she was returning to her hometown after resigning from her job along with a friend, she allegedly approached the assailant to find police station when her companion went missing.

“To find her friend, the survivor got down from the train and started looking for her. However, the train left the station and she was stranded in Nagpur,” Ganeshpeth police said.

“The accused took the survivor out of the railway station on the pretext of taking her to the police station, raped her at an isolated place, and fled,” police said.

The survivor somehow reached the main road where a Metro employee saw her and took her to the traffic department. Traffic cops soon alerted Ganeshpeth police who took the survivor under their care. Police are now scrutinizing CCTV footage of the spot.
