Sonowal, Singh condemn attack on AR jawans

GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh have condemned the attack on Assam Rifles (AR) personnel in Manipur’s Chandel district on Wednesday evening.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, Sonowal said, “The indiscriminate attack on the on-duty jawans deserves to be disapproved by all sections.”

Three AR personnel were martyred in an ambush, allegedly by militants, and one of the jawans, Pranay Kalita, belonged to Barpeta district of Assam.

“It is really shocking to know the loss of the life of a brave jawan of our state who became an innocent victim of the dastardly attack of militants. Militancy is not a solution to any problem, rather it complicates the situation,” Sonowal said.

“This is a testing time for the family of slain jawan, Pranay Kalita, as I express my heartfelt empathy with the bereaved family members and pray to God for eternal peace of the departed soul”, the chief minister added.

Manipur chief minister, in a tweet, stated, “I strongly condemn the cowardly attack on 4 Assam Rifles in Chandel district. My heartfelt tribute to the three security personnel martyred in the attack. These bravehearts have sacrificed their lives to bring peace and harmony in this region. I share the grief of the bereaved families.”
